All-On-Four Implants

How do All-on-4 implants differ from regular implants?


Full mouth restoration with regular implants mandates 8 to 10 implants per jaw. In contrast, reconstructing the dentition with all-on-four implants can accommodate the entire arch with four implants (two straight and two angulated posts).

As the angulated posts are fixed at 30 or 45 degrees towards the jawbone, the implant teeth can last with high stability even if a patient has a less dense bone.

Replace Missing Teeth

There are several inexpensive options for replacing missing teeth that provide full functionality and a natural appearance. The options for this are:



  • Single implant
  • Dental bridge
  • Dentures
  • Implant-supported dentures

Bone Grafting for Implants

So what exactly does bone grafting entail? Traditionally, the process involves removing a piece of bone from another part of the patient’s jaw or body and transplanting it into the jawbone. Alternative options today include obtaining bone from a cadaver source or an animal source to replace the missing bone.


These options provide less morbidity to the patient, prevent a second surgical site, and are just as successful. After this process, it may take several months for the transplanted bone to grow enough new bone to support the actual placement of a dental implant.

 
Once the jawbone does heal, the implant process moves forward. This starts with placing the titanium dental implant post into the jawbone. This stage also may take up to several months to heal.


Finally, once healing is complete, the board-certified periodontist at King Street Dental Care will place the abutment, an extension of the implant’s metal post, into the jaw. Again, time must be allowed for the soft tissue to heal.


After healing, molds of the teeth and jawbone are taken, and the procedure of inserting the final tooth or teeth can take place.

After Implant Placement

Care should be taken in the immediate postoperative period to minimize contact with the implant. Aside from normal hygiene, it is best to completely leave the implant alone for the first two weeks after placement. You may want to limit foods to softer items and chew in an area away from the implant during the 10 to 12 week integration stage.
